Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB – Problems And Their Solutions

If you’ve just bought a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 2.5-inch SATA III Internal SSD, you might run into a barrage of problems. Technically, the problems aren’t huge if you have the right product and right tools to deal with it. I bought the Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-inch SATA III Internal SSD over a month ago. I ran into a few problems listed below. I’d like to share how I dealt with them.

Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB – Problems And Their Solutions

Problem #1 Samsung Magician – This drive is not supported

Solution – If you’re using SATA III to USB 3.0 Cable to connect the Samsung SSD to your computer, you might run into this problem. The computer would read the Samsung SSD as a storage device instead of a Samsung SSD. The recommended way to connect the Samsung SSD to a computer is through SSD Caddy. If you’re using a laptop, it’s best to replace the original hard disk with the Samsung SSD and use SSD/HDD Caddy for the original hard disk.

Samsung Magician Tool at its best – Invalid Serial Number – This drive is not supported error.

Solution – Sometimes, the Samsung Magician Tool is at fault. If the Samsung SSD had been working fine before and isn’t working now, throwing this error, it’s probably the Samsung Magician tool at fault. Update it to the latest version to solve it. Sometimes, Samsung SSD verification servers are down. Even if the Samsung SSD was working fine before would usually display the error. It’s best to wait for the Samsung SSD verifications servers to wake up and take note of the Samsung SSD through the Samsung Magician tool installed on your computer.

Samsung Magician Tool is a makeshift arrangement to manage the Samsung SSD with it. I cannot emphasize “makeshift” enough because that’s what I’ve heard about it from their customer care executives. Please do not take it to the heart all the problems thrown by the Samsung Magician tool. The tool simply doesn’t exist for MAC users indicating its importance.

Problem #2 Samsung Magician – INVALID SERIAL NUMBER – Samsung Magician not detecting the SSD

Solution – It’s the same problem with another name. When I plugged the Samsung SSD to my computer using SATA III to USB 3.0 Cable, it failed to recognize the Samsung SSD connected. But when I installed the Samsung SSD via SSD/HDD Caddy, the Samsung Magician tool displayed no such errors. Instead of the INVALID SERIAL NUMBER, it displayed the Serial No printed on the SSD and the package.

The reason it works well with the SSD/HDD Caddy and doesn’t with the SATA III to USB 3.0 Cable is that the Samsung SSD needs more power to operate properly, which a SATA III to USB 3.0 Cable failed to provide.

Problem #3 Samsung SSD not showing up in BIOS

Either update or reset the BIOS.

Also, set the Integrated SATA Controller Ports to AHCI mode and not IDE. It’s via the AHCI mode enabled, the system communicates with the SATA devices.

Problem #4 Samsung SSD Registration and Warranty Issues

I don’t know how it’s in your country, but the Samsung registration portal to claim the warranty in India isn’t working properly. Yet, to be on the safe side, register your product. When I registered the Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB SSD, it showed that my product isn’t covered by the warranty.

A mail about product registration and warranty issue from Samsung India.

I had a word with the Samsung customer care executive about the registration issue and they assured me that the registration portal is under maintenance. They also added that the warranty of the product will be considered by the invoice of the product. Please keep it safe and secure.
