Looking for a keyboard that’s easy on your pocket yet works as quietly as your laptop’s chiclet keyboard? Look no further than Dell KB216 – a budget-friendly wired USB keyboard. Silent chiclet keys, full-width layout, premium look and feel and build quality – that could all be yours at a dirt cheap price.
I bought the Dell KB216 USB Wired keyboard a year ago. Since then, it’s been a constant companion. And today, I thought I should let the world know how to best spend the 500INR ($7-9) on their next keyboard. It’s a no-brainer, buy the Dell KB216 USB Wired Keyboard. Allow me to convince you.
Dell KB216 Wired Keyboard – What’s Good About It
Silent Chiclet Keys
Dell KB216 keys are as silent as your laptop’s keyboard. When I say as silent as your laptop’s keyboard, I mean, there’s a difference, but that’s negligible. You may hear the keys clacking in a very silent room, but that’s about it. They don’t wobble to touch (something you’d note in an inferior keyboard).
The slight trough in the middle of the keys allows for easy finger positioning, hence provide seamless typing experience.
It’s got the media keys for quick action. So play, pause, stop, mute, forward, backward at a press of a key. It’s got two Fn keys (Function keys) despite the full-layout style keyboard. Functions keys are generally found on laptop keyboards due to their restricted keyboard size. So make full use of that. The three white LED indicators for the three locks namely Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock are located at the top-right.
Key travel is less, credit goes to its chiclet fashioned keys. You don’t have to shove the key all the way down for the keyboard to recognize your action. A slight touch and your input will be registered, recognized by the keyboard. It’s quite comfortable as if you’ve forgotten you’re typing on a Dell KB216 keyboard and not your laptop anymore. If you’ve been using laptop’s keyboard till now, you’ll get used to the Dell KB216 in no time.
It’s been a year of moderate usage. Keys haven’t got sticky yet. The letters on the keys are as bold and as clear as they’re on the day I got it.
The Premium Feel
The durable build quality is designed to last, is designed to promise comfort. If you’re putting in long hours at the office or at home, Dell KB216 keyboard doesn’t demand anything but your attention – to your most important work. It has a very laptop-like feel to the hands. The premium feel and comfort go hand in hand, do not expect it from a cheaply priced keyboard other than Dell KB216. Palm-rest is also available (as a separate purchase) if you’re willing to shell a little more.
The keyboard is a lot slimmer, lower and closer to the desk it’s placed on. If you’d like to raise the board a bit, two legs are provided for the assistance at the back. It’s been a year, yet it’s minimalist design and features still enthralls me.
Plug & Play USB Keyboard
There’s no software package included in the keyboard box. And you do not need one either. Just plug it into your desktop or laptop and you’re ready to experience the Dell KB216 keyboard.
Dell KB216 Keyboard – Its Limitations
Dell KB216 is a wired keyboard. I don’t mind it, but if you do, get Dell KM117 Wireless Keyboard. Dell KM117 keyboard & mouse is an exact replica of Dell KB216 keyboard, almost, but with a wireless setup. Of course, Dell KM117 is a little pricier than the Dell KB216 Keyboard.
It’s Not Spill Resistant
Keep the coffee, water bottle away from it. Or, use a silicone keyboard protector skin just like I do, to save it from coffee, water and dust. The only reason my keyboard still looks as new as it’s on the day I got.
